Seeing 2 interesting bands in the coming days. Both at Vega.
Tonight it's The Dead Weather from the US. A sort of "super group" comprised of Alison Mosshart (of The Kills and Discount), Jack White (of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs), Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes)
Their debut album Horehound (out january '09) was recorded in 3 weeks and it has a raw dirty blues rock energy about it. All around genius Jack White puts aside his usual guitar shenanigans for this band, and plays drums instead (apparently it was the instrument he started out with when he first began in music), and he actually does a really good/groovy job at it. The other musicians also put in a good effort; deep rumbling fuzzed out bass lines from Jack Lawrence and all sorts of muddy guitars (and ditto organs) from Dean Fertita. Alison Mosshart makes up an energetic front woman. Attitude is the word.
An interesting collaboration with a fresh debut album on their hands. Looking very much forward to seeing them live!
"Hang You From The Heavens" (live)
Ridiculously cool video for "Treat me like your Mother":
On monday night we're seeing The Horrors from England. This is a bit of a re-post actually, but since the first one was in faroese it can be forgiven. Saw them supporting Muse at Parken in Copenhagen recently, and liked it. Looking forward to seeing them again. Their second album Primary Colours was released earlier this year. Produced by Geoff Barrow from Portishead and video director Chris Cunningham, the album marks The Horrors' move into shoegazy/psychedelic/kraut/pop/rock territory which is an interesting move. Check out excellent lead single (and final track on Primary Colours) "Sea Within A Sea":
2nd single "Mirror's Image":
So the potential for great live shows is definitely there. Oh, and if you're in Copenhagen and reading this right here and right now, then get your ass down to Vega! The show just started! :)
