Been thinking about doing a recurring post theme about German music from the late 60's to the late 70's; a musical era that has been widely labeled as "krautrock". Bands like Can, Kraftwerk, Neu!, Cluster, Harmonia, Tangerine Dream & Faust represent the term. As with all labels people have different opinions on it and some see it as derogatory. The bands involved are also very different in style, image and character and can be said to have very little in common, some of them weren't even aware of each other back in the day. But hey, we need to understand this world we live in and the phenomena that occur in it. And krautrock, or kosmische musik as some would call it, is definitely an interesting one.
Before we start with the krautrock or kosmische blog series let's take a look at this interesting BBC four documentary entitled Krautrock - the rebirth of Germany. It details the historical situation and features interviews with most key players in German rock and electronic music at the time. In other words; members from all the above mentioned bands get to have their short but significant say. Later on I will follow this up with posts on each individual band. Take care and stay kraut!
And as mentioned above I will follow this up later on with posts on the individual bands (including Harmonia, Cluster & Eno and Eno-Moebius-Roedelius).
